Artist's Description

There is a long history to this canvas. It tells stories that are no longer visible as I have painted over them. Initially, this started out as a painting during the first months of the pandemic. It sat finished in my studio for months. It was a good painting, but I could not figure out why it was not done. As the winter winds down here in Northern Minnesota, I finally realized that Covid, although overflowing with creative material, was not really something I wanted hanging on a wall. At least not the way I initially portrayed it. Then, thinking I would let something a bit more hopeful or positive find its way out, I painted this. Winter, decay, abandon - wanting to give way to "Spring"'. And just like looking through the pinhole in a box (camera obscura), we find it difficult to see the intended picture. It feels that way to me right now. We know it's there...but oh so difficult to find. Maybe not as hopeful as I had intended, but the fact remains, Spring always, always, always comes...

Theresa Johnson is a wife, mother, artist, and writer. She and her husband David, photographer and owner of Star Prairie Gallery, live in Wisconsin where they enjoy spending time with their family. Theresa, artist and owner of Star Prairie Studio, spent years working as a business analyst for the State of Minnesota before becoming disabled in 2009 by Lupus, Sjogrens Syndrome and Rheumatoid Arthritis . Her writings speak to life lived with a chronic and incurable disease. Her paintings represent that journey, often times exploding with energy and color, symbolizing qualities such as beauty, strength, vulnerability and grace.
